Call Us to Decide
It is best if you call us to decide on the choice of the dead bolt. Some models might have a safety issue if you are looking for high security purposes, but the same model would be suitable for average privacy related needs.
How is a dead bolt different?
A dead bolt is different from the regular spring bolt lock. In a typical spring bolt, the bolt is held in place with the aid of a spring. When pressure is applied to the bolt the spring favors retraction. However, in a dead bolt things work differently. It takes the correct key to rotate the lock cylinder in the lock to eventually open the lock. A deadbolt is mostly used as a complementary locking system along with the spring-bolt lock.
There are different types of dead bolt locks like:
Single cylinder dead bolt locks: This model can be opened with a key on one side of the door. You have to make use of the twist knob on the other side of the door.
Double cylinder dead bolt locks: These models do not have a twist knob. They accept keys on both the sides. Since this model does not have a twist knob, it is not possible for someone to open the door without the use of the key.
Lockable Knob dead bolt locks: Some double cylinder models come with a lockable knob. In this case, the twist knob on the inside can be used to open the door without the key only when the knob is not locked. If you do not want anyone to use this twist knob to open the door when it is locked with a key from the other side, you can lock the knob and it will be impossible to open the door without the appropriate key.
Vertical deadbolt locks: This model is highly resistant to jimmying.
